Hard Seat's Export Turnover Eyes US$185Mln in Jan-May

Vietnam’s export turnover from hard seats, one of the key export items of the local woodwork sector, is estimated at around US$185 million in the first five months of this year, according to the latest figures from the Ministry of Trade.
 
The figure reportedly accounts for around 41.57 per cent of the sector’s total export revenue from the products, which is expected at $445 million for the whole year. In the Jan-Apr period, hard seat exports are estimated to bring in some $153.2 million, up 44.5 per cent on year.
 
Of the total, earnings from EU market, the biggest importer of Vietnamese hard seat exports reached $103.85 million, accounting for 67.78 per cent of total export revenue from the products.
 
Britain, France and Germany are the leading countries in the EU importing Vietnamese hard seats who spent $21.3 million, $19.3 million and $16 million on buying the products, respectively making up for 13.9 per cent, 12.6 per cent and 10.4 per cent of Vietnam’s hard seat export revenue.
 
Meanwhile, the US continued to maintain its position as the second largest importer as it spent nearly $25.7 million importing Vietnamese hard seats during the time, up as many as 71 per cent on year and making up for 16.77 per cent of hard seat export revenue.
 
Japan, which is seen as a very potential market, reportedly bought $4.2 million worth of Vietnamese hard seats, accounting for only 2.7 per cent. Recent figures from the Japan Custom House showed that Vietnamese hard seats made up for only 2.5 per cent of Japanese demand in the first four months.
 
Now, around 464 enterprises in Vietnam are participating in exporting hard seats. 400 or 88.1 per cent of them are domestic owned. The remaining 55 or 11.8 per cent are foreign invested enterprises.
