E-Mobile: Competition of New Services

At an international seminar on CDMA450, which was jointly held by the Electricity Corporation of Vietnam (EVN) and IA450 in Hanoi, participants shared the same view that various services could be developed on the platform of CDMA450, from low cost call to high-speed transmission on the global scale.

 

Apart from low costs and value added services on the broadband platform, the CDMA2000 1X EV-DO technology offers customers a completely safe commitment in terms of security, which has become a great concern of GSM service providers in Vietnam.

 

Nguyen Manh Bang, director of EVN Telecom, said that via the seminar EVN Telecom wanted to send a message that EVN Telecom would not become a rival of GSM providers. Instead, the company has targeted two market sections, which were still abandoned, including hi-tech e-mobile and e-phone services.

 

The biggest difference is that E-Mobile subscribers will use the CDMA2000 1X EV-DO technology. The technology enables customers to use high-speed Internet connection, ADSL, anywhere in Vietnam with their laptops and E-mobile phones. This service has not been provided by any mobile network in Vietnam. In the coming time, E-Mobile customers will have opportunities to use other value added services, which have not been available in Vietnam before, such as mobile virtual network, and mobile positioning service.

 

Apart from technological advantages, EVN Telecom’s e-phone service is another strong point of EVN Telecom. E-phone subscribers can use value added services like e-mobile subscribers but in certain localities with monthly charge of VND 40,000 and charge for any call to fixed telephones of VND 360 per minute.

 

Enterprises which use e-phone service will enjoy a special offer in terms of charge and prices of end devices. At the same time, all e-phone subscribers will be awarded a priority to have the same last seven digits in the e-mobile network if they want to shift to the e-mobile service.  

Bang said that e-mobile charge was the lowest among mobile phone networks in Vietnam but EVN Telecom did not consider it an advantage. Instead, advantage of the network is to offer hi-tech services, which are unavailable in other networks. Bang went on to say: “We will win heart of customers with excellent services, instead of charge.”
