Vietnam Lacks Standard Auditors

Vietnam, despite a populous country, is in dire need of standard auditor workforce, said Nguyen Phuong Mai, chief representative of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA).

Among nearly 1,000 auditors in Vietnam, 200 of them have international standard certificates, which is a too small number to make investors confident in the business climate in the country.

However, Vietnam is also facing with the brain-drain as many of globally-certified auditors move to work abroad, Mai said.

The situation will become worse after Vietnam joins the World Trade Organization, since then the country will open widely the financial sector, especially the accounting and auditing sectors for foreigners, she said.
