The fact that 57 Vietnamese students were granted with ACCA diplomas on July 9, 2006, in Hanoi proves a good preparation for human resources development of Vietnam before it joins the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

This is the highest number of graduates since 2000 when ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) organised first examination in Vietnam. This proves a good sign, showing increasingly high capability of Vietnamese students and closer opportunities to get diplomas in accounting and auditing, which are recognised globally.

Up to date, the number of ACCA students in Vietnam has reached 1,300 and the number of graduates has been put at 202. These are meaningful figures for Vietnam to achieve a target of having between 1,000 and 1,500 auditors, 30 per cent of whom have internationally recognised diplomas, in 2010.

Laurie Gillow, ACCA's head of international corporate development, said that over the past years, Vietnam’s accounting and auditing had witnessed important developments, in particular the issuance of accounting standards, which were closer to the international standard. As the biggest professional organisation, ACCA is proud to develop co-operation with the Ministry of Finance, the Vietnam Accounting and Auditing Association and the Vietnam Accountants’ and Auditors’ Association to help Vietnam achieve its targets in accounting and auditing human resources development.

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) is the biggest international professional association with 260,000 students and 110,000 members in 170 countries in the world. ACCA made its debut in Vietnam in 1996 and opened a representative office in Ho Chi Minh City in 2002 and so far, has opened an office in Hanoi.
