Trade Ministry Launches Competition Council
The Competition Council was officially set up on July 4, 2006, according to the Competition Management Department under the Ministry of Trade.
The Competition Council is an independent State organ and is responsible for settling competition-limiting conducts such as competition limit agreements, abuse of market dominating position, abuse of monopoly position and economic centralisation.
On June 12, 2006, approved the nominations of Minister of Trade, the Prime Minister signed the Decision No. 843/QD-TTg to appoint Mr. Phan The Rue, Deputy Minister of Trade, to be the Council Chairman, Mr. Dinh Trung Tung, Deputy Minister of Justice, to be Vice Chairman and other positions. Their tenure is five years and they can sit for re-election.
Minister of Trade Truong Dinh Tuyen presided over the meeting to present members of the Competition Council. At this meeting, the council chairman and his colleagues discussed the development orientations and action programmes of the council in the next three years as well as exchanged ideas over the construction of working regulations, coordinating mechanism and supporting apparatus for the council.
Under the plan, the Competition Council will issue operation charter in August 2006 and gradually stabilise its organisation.
