WB, IMF Leaders to Visit Vietnam

Leaders of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will pay a working visit to Vietnam on occasion of the 13th APEC Finance Ministers’ Meeting (APEC FMM 13) due on September 4-8, showing great attention of the WB and the IMF to the developing country’s integration process.
 
Juann Jose Daboub, WB’s general director and John Lipsky, IMF’s vice general director will have meetings with Vietnam Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, government officials and representatives of the ministries of finance, planning and investment, agriculture and rural development and others to discuss the country’s five-year plans for 2006-2010 including national comprehensive development assistance programs, investment activities and Vietnam’s assistance strategies.
 
Additionally, the meetings will also address efficiency and harmony of aid, strategies on anti-corruption, rural development and bird-flu fight of the Vietnamese government.
 
APEC FMM 13 is scheduled to debate such issues as policies on budget revenue, administrative reforms, regional and global macro-economic movements, regional cooperation.
 
Additionally, the conference will also hold bilateral dialogues concerning economic-financial cooperation. 

Reportedly, executive vice president of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) under the World Bank (WB) Lars Thunell in his recent visit pledged to double its annual investments in Vietnam, totaling some US$100-150 million, over the next three years.
