Vietnam Counts 5.55Mln New Phone Users in Jan-Aug

Vietnam reports some 950,000 new telephone subscribers in August, raising the total subscription number so far this year to 5.55 million, the government’s General Statistic Office (GSO) said.
 
The new figure raised the number of telephone users nationwide to 21.4 million to date, it said.
 
The VNPT Group retains its leading position with nearly 16 million clients, including 7.31 million landline subscribers and 8.69 million mobile ones.
 
With the introduction of various telephone services by EVN Telecom, operational service providers will be forced to cut service usage charges, said the GSO.
 
Meanwhile, the number of new internet subscribers also keeps increasing to reach 867,100 in the first eight months of this year, totaling 3.77 million so far, of which 1.61 million belong to VNPT Group.
 
Also according to the GSO, the post and telecom industry records an estimated revenue of VND23.3 trillion (US$1.46 billion) in the eight-month period, of which the VNPT Group bagged VND21.86 trillion (US$1.37 billion).
