A seminar for Vietnamese and Turkish businesses aiming to boost cooperation in trade, construction of infrastructure, food processing, services and tourism between the two countries was organized in Hanoi on August 29.
The event, which was jointly held by Vietnam's Trade Promotion Department and the Turkish Department for Export Promotion, attracted representatives from 17 Turkish economic groups and more than 100 Vietnamese businesspeople.
Earlier on August 28, the Vietnamese-Turkish Joint Economic and Trade Committee also held their third meeting in Hanoi with the same objective to accelerate economic cooperation between the two countries.
These events were high on the agenda of a Turkish business delegation who are visiting Vietnam from August 28-31.
“The visit of Turkish firms to Vietnam will surely bring big economic agreements for the two nations”, remarked Ulker Guzel, Turkey’s Deputy Minister of Trade.
Meanwhile, a Turkish representative in an interview with Vietnam News Agency said that more and more companies from Turkey are planning to enter Vietnam.
Mr Dursun Yildirim, rector of Horizon Language School in Ho Chi Minh City, who was one of attendants, said that the participating in this event would help him to be more willing to open more private schools in Hanoi.
Vietnam, in 2005, ranked 64th among importers and 89th among exporters to Turkey. Meanwhile, Turkey is one of Vietnam's key commercial partners in Southwest Asia.
The bilateral trade value in 2005 remained modest at around US$103 million, making up only one percent of each country's export turnover.
Currently, Vietnam's exports focus on agricultural products, handicrafts, footwear, wood work, electronic components, while Turkey’s strengths are in investment, production and export of machines, garment products, fertilizer and insecticides.
