Ukraine Opens Consulate in Vietnam, Seeks Further Economic Cooperation
Ukraine officially opened a consulate in Ho Chi Minh City on August 28, aiming to turn the trade and investment cooperation between Ukraine and Vietnam into reality, said Ukraine's Deputy Foreign Minister Kostenko on the opening ceremony.
The event was also attended by Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City's People's Council Huynh Thanh Lap and Vietnamese representatives from relevant agencies.
As designed, the Consulate will serve as a bridge for Vietnamese businesses to invest in wood production factories in Ukraine and to export the produce to European markets, Vietnamese businessman Vu Dinh Luyen, the Honourary Consul General of the Ukraine Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City said, adding that the two sides’ business communities still have lots of potential to explore, and the two nations need to make more efforts for this.
The two countries also signed an agreement on the recognition of educational diplomas and scientific degrees between the two countries to boost cooperation in education and training, sciences and technology on November 4, 2004.
According to the Vietnamese Trade Ministry, the country earned US$16 million from exports to Ukraine in 2004 and spent US$122 million on buying goods from the latter.
