Hyundai Motor Vietnam Co. (HMV), the sole distributor of Hyundai passenger cars in Vietnam, began selling imported Hyundai car models in the domestic market from October 2, 2006, said local media.
The South Korean carmaker initially sells Coupe sports cars and Santa Fe SUVs in Vietnam, said Mr. Ha Minh Tuan, HMV’s director.
These models are highly appreciated in the South Korean market, Tuan added.
The Coupe is powered by 165-horsepower V6 2.7 DOHC engine while the Santa Fe is installed 147-horsepower CRDi 2.2 diesel engine. Both models have luxury interiors and sound systems.
The Coupe, which comes in red, silver and yellowish, is sold at $49,900 and the Santa Fe with four colors of black, silver, beige and blue, is priced at $51,900.
Apart from sedan and SUV majors, Hyundai will export ambulances and mobile banking vehicles to Vietnam, Tuan said.
HMV hopes to sell 300 vehicles in 2006, 1,000 units in 2007 and 5,000 units in 2010.
Apart from its sales agents in the two largest cities of Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, HMV will open new agents in Danang, Viet Tri and Can Tho cities - the important economic centers in Vietnam.
According to local media, Hyundai has cooperated with Vietnam’s largest carmaker Vinamotor and Vietnam’s largest shipbuilder Vinashin in car and ship projects.
