Car Sales Keep Soaring Increasing in September

3:38:53 PM | 10/6/2006

The Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) has announced that the combined sales volume of its 16 company members in September rose 2 per cent on-month and 21 per cent on-year to 3,868 units.

The rehabilitation of the local auto market in the month was attributable to the growth of the commercial vehicle segment with a 28 per cent on-year increase, VAMA said in a statement.

According to a car trader, the hard penetration of imported used cars and attractive offers from carmakers also contributed to the expansion of the car market.

“Ford is offering seductive gifts as well as discounts to its customers,” he said.

However, the sales volume in the January-September period was still 5 per cent lower than the same period of 2005 to 26,890 units.

The nine-month sales fall is principally attributed to 45 per cent sales drop in passenger car segment to 4,437 units, it added.

Japanese-led Toyota Vietnam remains the largest carmaker with sales of 1,260 cars in September, totaling 9,622 units in nine months, followed by Vietnamese-invested Truong Hai Auto with 509 units and 3,860 units, and Isuzu with 271 units and 1,763 units.

Vindaco, which makes Daihatsu cars, enjoyed the highest on-year growth in September and the January-September period of 185 per cent and 37 per cent to 74 and 405 units, respectively.

Meanwhile Vidamco, a GM-Daewoo branch, suffered the deepest fall of 53 per cent and 64 per cent in September and January-September to 139 and 1,177 units, respectively.
