Russian Firm Looks to Invest US$1Bln in Vietnam Mining Project
Russia’s top aluminum producer Rusal may pump $1 billion into a bauxite ore mining project in Vietnam’s central region, Vietnam News quoted Igor Khovaev, minister counselor of the Russian Embassy in Vietnam as saying.
The counselor said the project is now being negotiated and did not reveal any more details.
Rusal, which holds a 75 per cent stake in Russia’s aluminum market, posted $6.65 billion in revenues last year.
Phan Huu Thang, head of the Ministry of Planning and Investment’s Foreign Investment Agency, plans to draw up potential projects for Russian investors and organize trade promotion seminars to attract more capital.
So far, Russia has 47 projects with a combined registered capital of $278 million in Vietnam, ranking 22nd among 76 countries and territories investing in the country.
