Turkey Lifts Quotas for Vietnamese Apparel
The Import-Export Department under the Trade Ministry announced that Turkey has decided to remove Vietnam textile and garment import quotas since the country became an official member of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
Accordingly, Vietnamese apparel products shipped to Turkey are not be restricted by quotas or export license requirements from the Ministry of Trade, as of January 11.
Exporters will only have to finish procedures for their shipments at customs offices, the department added.
Turkey, which annually consumes some US$10-11.5 million worth of Vietnamese apparel, had imposed quotas on about 25 textile and garment categories imported from Vietnam.
Vietnam’s apparel sector’s estimated export revenues in 2006 were over $5.8 billion, up 19.9 per cent against 2005.
Vietnam’s garment and textile sector is aiming to reach an apparel export turnover of $7 billion in 2007, and $10 billion in 2010 to be listed among the world’s top ten garment exporters. (Vietnam & World Economy Jan 23 p2, Labor Jan 23 p3, VNA Jan 22, Vietnam Panorama)
