The Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group, the Industry & Development Company (Indevco) and the Vietnam Mineral Corporation (Vimico) on February 2 jointly kicked off a project to build Vietnam’s largest float glass factory, worth VND1.3 trillion (over US$81 million), in Chu Lai Economic Zone of central Quang Nam province.

The 1,000 ha-Chu Lai glass factory in Quang Nam Province is expected to become operational after fifteen months of construction, creating jobs for some 400 local residents.

Once fully operational, the factory, which boasts a state-of-the-art float glass production line with a daily melting capacity of 700 tons, can annually supply over 40 million sq.m of glass products to the market with thickness ranging from 15-20 mm.

The investors have chosen Quang Nam for the glass plant, as the province is rich in natural white sand, the main material for glass making. (VNA, Young People)
