Vietnam Signs up Nearly 30Mln Telephone Subscribers
The Ministry of Posts and Telecom announced that Vietnam now has nearly 30 million telephone subscribers, reaching the tele-density of 35 telephone lines/100 people.
Of the sum, mobile phone users account for nearly 69 per cent and landline users make up the remaining 31 per cent, the ministry said on the first day of Lunar New Year, February 17.
In 2006, telephone service providers signed up nearly 12 million subscribers and attained total revenues of VND49,000 billion (US$3.06 billion).
Vietnam Posts and Telecoms Group (VNPT) remains the largest post and telecom service provider with VND38,000 billion (US$2.37 billion) revenues, or 77.55 per cent of the total industry.
In 2007, Vietnam’s post and telecom industry expects to serve 38 million telephone subscribers and generate VND60,000 billion revenues.
