Workshop on Textile & Footwear Industries
The Multilateral Trade Assistance Programme (MUTRAP) and Ho Chi Minh City Economics Institute jointly hosted the workshop entitled “Vietnam’s WTO accessional commitments: Implications for textile and footwear industries” in Ho Chi Minh City in mid-March 2007.
Addressing the meeting, Mr Diep Thanh Kiet, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City Association of Garment, Textile, Embroidery and Knitting (Agtek), said Vietnamese textile and footwear industries are enduring heavy pressure from Vietnam’s admission to the WTO. In order to fully address risks for local enterprises, implementation of WTO entry commitments should be announced sooner and more clearly, Kiet said. At the same time, the construction pace of textile and footwear material transaction centres should be raised.
