Vietnam Business Forum’s reporter had an interview with Mr Tran Cao Truong, General Director of Bach Tuyet Cotton JSC .
Would you mind briefing development steps of the company in the past 50 years?
The predecessor of the company was the health cotton and sanitary towel factory, which was set up in the 1960s. At that time, the company had only a small plant to serve the demand in southern Vietnam. In 1975, the Cobovina Bach Tuyet factory was nationalised and was under the Hong Gam Textile Enterprise. Then, the company was renamed to Bach Tuyet State Enterprise in 1979. From 1986, the enterprise changed its name to Bach Tuyet Cotton Company under the Decision 194/QD-UB dated December 09, 1992 by the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee. In 1997, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee allowed the company to rename to Bach Tuyet Cotton Joint Stock Company under the Decision 6630/QD-UB-KT dated November 20, 1997. The initial chartered capital was VND11.4 billion, in which the State kept 30 per cent.
In 2002, the company raised its chartered capital to VND68.4 billion to meet its business expansion requirement. The company has experienced many changes and I personally treasure all achievements my forerunners made. I am very proud of being trusted by shareholders to lead the company continue its development in the integration process in spite of difficulties ahead. However, I believe that I can steer the ship to success.
In 2006, BBT marked a milestone in its development history. Could you give more details abut your business expansion plans in northern region?
The year 2006 is our unforgettable time of Bach Tuyet Cotton on the journey to become a “leading supplier of health cotton and healthcare products in Vietnam”. The company expanded and provide highly-valued healthcare products. It also supported many scientific studies conducted by hospitals and medicine schools and sponsored “Successful businesswomen programme” and a series of other social activity programmes.
Also in 2006, the export market of BBT reached African market. In addition, American and European customers also sought our supplies. Hence, we strongly believe that we will have a turning point in those choosy markets.
As for our business expansion in the northern region, this is not new. However, we only sell health cottons. BBT wants to sell all products in this market. We will not encountered major difficulties with this development plan but the personnel shortage and business routines.
In 2006, BBT officially opened a branch in Hanoi City and started surveying the market and customer tastes. In 2007, BBT is expanding its network in northern Vietnam. By 2009, BBT will fully occupy the northern market and in the near future BBT will build a factory in this region to meet the local and export markets.
What are the company’s plans to attract concerns of investors?
BBT plans to issue shares worth of VND20 billion in the second quarter of this year to raise funds for the project to expand dressing production. At the same time, we are negotiating to invest in building a vocational technological training college specialised in. In my opinion, the demand for the high-tech workers is very high in the country, especially in the integration process. Besides, we also carry out product export promotion programmes and have reaped certain successes in Japan and Africa. The export now contributes 15 per cent of BBT revenues. In the future, we will export our products to the US via a distribution company. I believe that with those projects investors will have a new look at BBT.
