Government Delegation Visits US, Singapore

A delegation of high-level Vietnamese Government officials headed by Chairman of the Government Office Doan Manh Giao visited the US and Singapore from April 10-24 to study policy transparency and e-gazette development, according to website of Vietnamese government.
 
The trip was funded and organized by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the U.S.-Vietnam Trade Council Education Forum and STAR-Vietnam. Police Deputy Minister Nguyen Khanh Toan, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Tran Van Tuan, and representatives from the Government Office and Ministries of Finance, Education and Training, and Natural Resources & Environment joined the delegation.
 
In Singapore, the Vietnamese delegation worked with Defense Minister cum Minister-in-charge of Civil Service Teo Chee Hean, the Deputy Foreign Minister, the Prime Ministerial Office, Supreme Court, and Singapore National Printing House.
 
They exchanged views on the experience and lessons of Singapore in building policy and law with transparency and e-gazette over the past time, as well as interactive-gazette (i-gazette) at the moment.
 
In the US, the Vietnamese side met with key U.S. Government agencies and state organizations, including the US Department of State, US Trade Representative, and the US Agency for International Development, to study the regulatory framework and practice on transparency.
 
Giao and his entourage also discussed with Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Eric John the upcoming visit to the US by Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet, as well as the development of Vietnam-US relations, and visited the State of California, which is now the eighth biggest economy in the world.
 
The activity was an effort to gradually modernize the State administrative network and implement international integration commitments, including World Trade Organization (WTO) undertakings.
 
Under Vietnam’s WTO Accession Protocol and the US-Vietnam Bilateral Trade Agreement, Vietnam has committed to a wide-ranging agenda for increasing transparency, from soliciting public comments on drafts of legal documents, publication of legal documents and notification of the WTO, to uniform, impartial and reasonable enforcement of the law and regulations.
