Construction on US$2 billion North An Khanh urban center has already been kicked off in the northern province of Ha Tay, just few kilometers west from Hanoi.

The new complex is being constructed by the Vietnam Construction Import-Export Joint Stock Corporation (Vinaconex JSC) and South Korea-based POSCO Engineering & Construction (POSCO E&C).

Covering nearly 270 hectares of land in An Khanh, Lai Yen, Song Phuong and Van Canh communes of Hoai Duc district, the project will house 6,440 apartments, and 1,311 villas and adjoining houses.

Trade centers and supermarkets will also be built by the time the new residential area is completed by 2013.

Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem said the new initiative will contribute to socio-economic development in both Ha Tay and Hanoi, thanks in large part to its geographic location. (Vietnam & World Economy, Pioneer)
