According to a consumer market study, Nokia is a favourite cell-phone brand name in the world, as well as in Vietnam. PetroVietnam Telecom (PV Telecom), a branch of PetroVietnam Tourism and Services Joint Stock Co (Petrosetco) under Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam), has recently been named the fourth authorised Nokia distributor in Vietnam. The Vietnam Business Forum had a talk with Mr Pham Anh Tuan, Director of PV Telecom, on the occasion of its launching.
Could you talk about the preparatory steps to be named a Nokia distributor in Vietnam?
To become an authorised distributor of Nokia cell phones, we had to satisfy many conditions, from business strategy and development phases to distribution network and especially human resources. PV Telecom has now been named an authorised distributor of Nokia mobile phones. Nokia chose PV Telecom for the following reasons. First, we have absolute support from the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam), which showed keen interest in this new business field. Second, PetroSetco has healthy financial operations and is capable of mobilising capital from various sources, inside and outside oil and gas industry. Finally, we have a young, dynamic and professional workforce.
What do you think about the Vietnamese mobile phone market and what are its prospects?
Vietnam has been rated one of the highest potential mobile phone markets in Asia. As of late 2006, Vietnam had more than 20 million mobile phone subscribers. With quick growth, the mobile phone subscriber population is estimated to reach 30 million by late 2007. At present, more than 20 cell phone makers are competing for the vibrant market in Vietnam. World-leading brands are Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, Sony Ericsson and Siemens. Nokia is the largest with more than 50 per cent of the market share. Regarding the mobile phone retail market, several agents are operated cell phone supermarket chains like Nettra, Mobile World, A Telecom, Thang Long. However, an overwhelming majority of agents are small shops. To meet the increasing demand for Nokia cell phones, it is necessary to have a new Nokia distributor. Thus, PV Telecom joined the market.
Talk about the differences between PV Telecom and other distributors? What are PV Telecom’s commitments?
We pledge to provide the best services and meet all retailer demand. PV Telecom will build a nationwide distribution network with eight offices in Hanoi, Haiphong, Vinh, Danang, Buon Me Thuot, Nha Trang, Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho, for rapid delivery. In addition, PV Telecom is staffed by a professional and devoted workforce. Moreover, PV Telecom can provide models, designs and Nokia customer care services to customers because it only supplies Nokia cell phones. The professional and modern management system of PV Telecom enables the implementation of this.
What are the objectives of PV Telecom?
Our goal is to build PV Telecom into a favourite distributor of Nokia mobile phones in Vietnam before the distribution market is opened for foreign distributors in 2009. We believe PV Telecom, oriented by the guideline “In person - wholeheartedly,” will confirm its prestige and service quality, making it the first choice of customers.
