Lord Mayor of the City of London Visits Vietnam

From 2-5 May 2007, the Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman John Stuttard accompanied by a high-level delegation from key British financial services institutions, paid a visit to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to support UK financial institutions in Vietnam and to promote the development of Vietnam’s capital markets. The broader aim is to form closer partnerships to help Vietnam make a success of its new WTO membership.
 
In Hanoi, the Lord Mayor met Vietnam’s Prime Minister, the Minister of Education and Training, the Deputy Minister of Finance, the Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam, the Chairman of the State Securities Commission and the Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee. He also interacted with representatives of the WB, ADB, IFC and IMF and the EC as well as opened a seminar on “Financial Service Regulatory Rules and Practices”, delivered by the Futures and Options Association based in the City of London.
 
In Ho Chi Minh City, the Lord Mayor met the Chairman of HCM City People’s Committee and the Chief Executive Officer of HCM City Securities Trading Centre. The Lord Mayor opened two seminars on “City of London - The World’s Centre for Financial Services” and “Going Global through London Capital Markets” and delivered a speech on “City of London - A Partner for Vietnam”.
 
The Lord Mayor Stuttard has launched the new “City of London - City of Learning” campaign backed by the British Council and UK Trade & Investment to link global centres with high-level professional institutions and universities / business schools in the UK.
