PetroVietnam, Petronas Find Oil Offshore Vietnam
PetroVietnam and Malaysia’s Petronas have said they have found commercial oil and gas at Thang Long structure in Block 02/97, Cuu Long basin, offshore Vietnam.
Thang Long structure is 27 km off Ruby oilfield to the southeast, 80 km off Bach Ho oilfield to the northeast and 160 km off Vung Tau city to the east.
Lam Son Joint Operating Company, an equal joint venture between PetroVietnam and Petronas, encountered two oil wells in the block.
Lam Son JOC discovered oil at Thang Long - 2X well on May 25, 2007 at the depth of 2,577 meters. This well is expected to produce 5,000 barrels of crude oil ad day and 38 million cubic feet of gas a day.
So far, the company has found oil and gas in all three drilled wells: Lang Long - 1X, Thang Long - 2X and Ho Xam - 1X.
Lam Son JOC, which was set up in 2003, drilled its first well of Thang Long 1X last year with a potential of 600 barrels per day. (The People, Liberated Online)
