Vietnam May Open Int'l Bid for Big Thermo Power Project
Vietnam, which is thirsty for power and heavily reliant on hydroelectricity, may open international tender for the expanded Uong Bi 2 thermo power project due to sluggishness of local contractor, local Labor newspaper said Wednesday.
An interdisciplinary inspection group recently made the proposal to the Vietnamese government after surveying the project progress.
Vietnam will select a construction contractor under the EPC (Engineering-Procurement-Construction) form for the 300-MW thermoelectric project.
Reportedly, Prime Minster Nguyen Tan Dung authorized Vietnam Construction and Machinery Installation Corporation (Lilama) and Electricity Group of Vietnam (EVN) to negotiate the EPC contract for the US$344-million project.
However, the two sides failed to reach an agreement after over a year of negotiation.
The Uong Bi expanded thermal power plant No2 situated in the northern province of Quang Ninh, about 153 km northeast of Hanoi, once operational will help supply more electricity for the country to maintain the set high GDP growth rate. (Labour)
