Malaysia Mulls US$1.6Bln Power Plant in Vietnam

Malaysia plans to build a power plant at an estimated cost of US$1.6 billion in Vietnam in the coming time, President of the Malaysian Senate Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Pawateh said to Vietnamese Prime Minister Dung at a meeting in Hanoi last week.
 
The foreign country pledged to complete all related social responsibilities while carrying the project, in compliance with the Vietnamese government’s requirements.
 
PM Dung proposed Malaysian side work with the Vietnamese Industry Ministry and the Electricity of Vietnam Group to complete relating procedures for the planned power project.
 
The Vietnamese government leader hoped Malaysian companies would invest in power projects in Vietnam in the BOT (build-operate-transfer) form.
 
Dung reiterated Vietnam 's policy of promoting mutually-benefiting cooperation with Malaysia and said he will pay an official visit to the country as guest of PM Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in the near future.
 
Vietnam had to buy up to 7.21 billion kWh of power in the first five months this year, up 33 per cent on-year.
 
Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) said the nation will face power shortage of 4.3-10.3 billion kWh from 2007 to 2009. (Vietnam Financial Times)
