Vinam Ship Industrial Group (Vinashin) has handed over a ship of 53, 000 tonne capacity, one of 30 ships under contract with Graig Investment Group for 2 years.

These ships were re-built by Nam Trieu Ship Industrial Company and Ha Long Ship Building Company. The series of ships was built under the control, check, and take-over of DNV, a Norwegian Ship Registry Office, the most creditworthy office in the world.

The new less-than-container (LCC) ships are designed in Denmark. Tran Quang Vu, General Director of Nam Trieu Ship Industrial Company, said the ships have two layers, creating a second shield protecting the goods in the hold from water and the risks of loss. The ship is equipped with a mono-screw driven by a two-phase diesel engine and its five holds have total capacity of 65,955 cubic metres. It is equipped with cranes with lift of 36 tons and the latest automatic control system. According to technicians, this ship has many outstanding features, for example, cost-saving and safe operation, with features limiting the risk of oil spills.

Pham Thanh Binh, President of Vinashin, emphasized that this special event marks a turning point for the Vietnamese ship industry, in ship exports. It is considered promising for Vinashin on the world ship building market. High William, President of Graig Group, affirmed this will lay the foundation for sustainable and long-term cooperation between Vinashin and Graig Group. Vinashin continuously accelerates the building of the 53,000 tonne capacity ships for Graig Group, and is preparing for other bigger and more complicated projects.
