Northern province of Bac Kan has approved 13 mining projects valued at VND1.8 trillion (US$112 million) in the first half of this year, Vietnam & World Economy daily newspaper said.

The figure accounts for 90 per cent total investment for mining, tourism, and forestry processing sectors, it noted.

The move is to put an end to the rampant ore exploitation for a long time and fully tap the natural resources for sustainable socioeconomic development.

The province is endowed with large reserves of precious minerals such as gold, lead, zinc, and iron. (Vietnam & World Economy)
