HCMC Needs US$13.7Mln to Upgrade Traffic Routes
Ho Chi Minh City, southern economic hub Vietnam, needs at least VND220 billion (US$13.7 million) to improve its transport infrastructure quality, aiming to limit traffic accidents and congestions, said Tran Quang Phuong, director of the municipal Transport and Public Works Department
He added that the department late June proposed the municipal government to grant the funding for the implementation within this year.
“US$13.7 million is minimum level to upgrade serious downgraded routes. In fact, the city needs VND450 billion (US$28.1 million) for the comprehensive maintenance,” said the director.
At present, Ho Chi Minh City transport system supports around six million traffic users daily but only 4.5 per cent use public transport.
The southern hub of Ho Chi Minh City loses over VND13 trillion (US$812.5 million) annually due to traffic congestions. (Investment)
