South Korea's JV Co Opens ASEANNâs Largest Cable Plant in Vietnam
Taihan-Sacom joint venture between the listed Cable and Telecommunications Material Company (Sacom) and South Korea’s leading cable producer of Taihan has just inaugurated the Southeast Asia’s biggest cable manufacturing factory in Vietnam’s southern Dong Nai province, state media reported.
The factory will produce 25,000 tons and 6,000 tons of electric and communication cables a year, said a company official, adding that it will also cast and roll copper and aluminum with 6,000 tons and 20,000 tons annually.
Most of the products will be for domestic sales and exports, noted the official.
The 15-ha facility costing US$40 million is located in the province’s Long Thanh industrial park.
Equipped with modern European technology, the factory will be the first plant of this kind to produce electric cable of 1,600-mm2 section, capable to transfer power at 500kV.
TSC is a 30-70 joint venture of the listed Cable and Telecommunications Material Company (Sacom) and Taihan, one of the South Korea’s leading cable producers.
The joint venture is expected to record revenue of US$25 million in 2007, US$50 million in 2008 and US$100 million by 2010. (Liberated Saigon, Vietnam Economic Times)
