Pacific Airlines to Double Fleet Next Year

Vietnam's sole low cost carrier, Pacific Airlines, whose 30 per cent stake is acquired by Qantas Airways Ltd, said Aug 3 that it will double its fleet to six aircrafts next year.
 
The unlisted airline added a Boeing 737-400 plane to its fleet consisting of three Boeing 737-400s in June. It plans to lease another Boeing 737 in October.
 
Pacific Airlines is running on HCM City-Hanoi route and plans to open two new of HCMC-Hue and HCMC-Nha Trang routes in the coming months.
 
The airline said it had raised its chartered capital to VND647.8 billion (US$40 million).
 
In April the State Capital Investment Corp (SCIC), which held a 92 per cent stake in the Ho Chi Minh City-based airline, sold 30 per cent to Qantas.
 
The airline has appointed new management board, including Pham Vu Hien, representative of the SCIC and chairman of the board of management; Le Song Lai, Deputy Director General of SCIC; Nguyen Duc Vinh, Director General of Techcombank, representing SCIC; and two personalities from Jetstar Airways, Director General Alan Joyce and Finance Director David Hall, representing Qantas.
 
The management board and shareholders have agreed to keep Luong Hoai Nam for the post of Director General of Pacific Airlines.
 
Daniela Marsilli, Australian, has been appointed as the Deputy Director General of Pacific Airlines. She previously held the post of Project Director of Qantas.
 
Qantas became the strategic partner of Pacific Airlines in April 2007, spending US$50 million to hold a 30 per cent stake in Pacific Airlines.
 
The airline recently decided to cooperate with the Telephone Book and Yellow Pages Joint Stock Company to launch two services that allow customers to check flight schedules, addresses of authorized booking agents nationwide on their mobile phones. (Thanhniennews)
