Vietnam Machinery Installation Corporation (Lilama) is now completing the construction of key projects throughout the country, including the expanded Uong Bi thermal power plant 1, Ca Mau gas and electricity plants 1 and 2, Nhon Trach gas and electricity plant 1 and Dung Quat oil refinery.
The expanded Uong Bi thermal power plant, for which Lilama was the EPC contractor for the first time, is at the final steps of the last phase. On December 18, 2006, the plant began generating commercial electricity. On June 15, 2007, the plant was completely fuelled by coal. On July 03, 2007, the plant was operated at the capacity of 312 MW, higher than designed capacity by 12 MW. At present, the plant is being run at full capacity to cope with the power thirst in the country. Lilama is adjusting technical parameters to optimise its operation before transferring it to the investor.
Lilama has finished 85 per cent of work on Ca Mau gas and electricity plants. Particularly, the corporation completed 99 per cent of design work, 100 per cent of main equipment supply, 99 per cent of fabrication work and 86 per cent of construction and installation. The first turbine of the plant generated commercial electricity from April 04, 2007 and the second turbine also started power production from April 24, 2007. On June 30, 2007, Lilama transferred the first turbine to the investor. The plant will be able to run at full capacity by the end of 2007. In the past time, the temporary suspension of Nam Con Son gas project for technical maintenance caused the loss of 1,000 MW on the national power grid. However, the cuts were compensated by 800 MW from the expanded Uong Bi and Ca Mau plants. Thus, the power supply was stable.
Ca Mau plant 2 has also experienced 50 per cent of workload. Lilama has completed 85 per cent of design work, 97 per cent of main equipment supply, 77 per cent of fabrication work and 42 per cent of construction and installation. The design, fabrication and equipment purchase for bids 1, 2, 3 and 4 are underway. Under the plan, the plant will generate power in March 2008.
Nhon Trach gas and electricity plant 1 project has been completed to 69 per cent of technical technological design. Main imported equipment has been ordered and locally sourced equipment is being made. Under the plan, Nhon Trach plant 1 will run on a trial basis in January 2008. The first turbine will begin commercial production in March 2008 and the second turbine in April 2008. The plant will be capable of operating at full capacity in March 2009.
At Dung Quat oil refinery construction site, Lilama has finished 55 per cent of tank installation under Bid P2&3, 53 per cent of steel framework fabrication, 20 per cent of installation of steel frames, 13 per cent of pipeline placement and 14 per cent of painting. 25 per cent of pipeline work on Bid P1&4 has been completed, 1.5 per cent of painting and 5 per cent of installation.
The quickened construction of these projects enabled Lilama to realise its business targets in the first six months of this year. Working value reached VND7,696.7 billion (US$481 million), 54.5 per cent of the full year target and 162.4 per cent of the same period last year. Total revenue was VND5,616.2 billion (US$351 million), 65.5 per cent of this year’s plan and 180 per cent of the same period last year. Pre-tax profit was VND66.2 billion, 64.3 per cent of this year’s plan and 270.5 per cent over the corresponding period last year.
