PM Dung Meets Russian Counterpart, Three Deals Signed

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung held September 11 talks with his Russian counterpart Mikhail Fradkov in Moscow, focusing on seeking measures to effectively implement priority tasks in a bid to boost the two nations’ strategic partnership relation, local media reported on September 12.
 
Among priority items, under the list offered by Russian President Vladimir Putin on the occasion of his official visit to Vietnam November last year, the two sides mainly concentrated on fields that are strengths of their countries such as oil, energy, mine ores, trade, industry and agriculture, science and technology, culture and education.
 
The two leaders expressed that the bilateral cooperation on economy, trade and investment has not yet met with both sides’ potentials and wishes, agreed together the two nations need to join hands to raise the bilateral trade value to US$2 billion by 2010 from only US$800 million currently.
 
During the talk, Dung and Fradkov highlighted the importance of overseas Vietnamese and Russian in each country and vowed to soon promote the signing of an agreement on labor to give more favorable conditions to these as well as facilitate labor export.
 
The host PM also affirmed Dung that his country always wants to build a comprehensive relationship with Vietnam and supports the Southeast Asian nation’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council in the 2008-2009 term as well as in many other international issues.
 
The two PMs jointly witnessed that signing ceremony of three important cooperative deals, including an agreement on the Vietsovpetro joint venture between the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Russia Ministry of Industry, a cooperation plan between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs, and a deal between the Viet Nam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) and Zarubezhneft to establish a joint venture to explore oil and gas in Russia and other countries.
 
Latter on the same day, the PM Dung and entourage met President Putin and Vice-Chairmen of the State Duma and the Federation Council of Russia.
 
PM Dung plans to receive leaders from several Russian leading companies and attend a Russia-Viet Nam business forum today.
 
He and the high-profile delegation then leave Moscow for Prague to start an official visit to the Czech Republic. (Local sources, Website of CPV)
