Vietnam to Become Regional Motorcycle Centre

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has approved a master plan to develop the motorcycle industry until 2015, under which Vietnam will become a regional centre of motorbike design, production and assembly.
 
The goals of the Vietnamese motorbike industry are to meet 100 per cent of domestic demand for common motorcycles in the rural area in 2015 and 95 per cent of demand in urban zones, bring the localisation ratio of scooters to 60 per cent and of common motorcycles to 90 per cent. Vietnam also set goals to manufacture motorbikes with engine capacity of over 125 cc, high-grade scooters, sports motorcycles, motorised three-wheelers for the disabled and all-terrain vehicles and vehicles for special purposes.
 
The Vietnamese motorbike industry is making effort to earn US$400 million from export of motorbikes and parts by 2010, while the Vietnamese supporting industries will take part in the global production chain of world leading motorbike manufacturers.
