Vietnamese government Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung arrived in the capital of Warsaw late Thursday [September 13] to start his official visit to Poland Republic in order to stiffen the bilateral traditional relations.
PM Dung, being accompanied by businesses, is conducting his visit at the invitation of his Polish counterpart Jaroslaw Kaczynski.
Dung is scheduled to meet with President Lech Kaczynski, and attend a Vietnam-Poland business forum today.
Earlier, Dung held talks with Polish PM, expressing his hope that the two countries would continue close cooperation in economic, trade and investment ties fields including shipbuilding, coal exploitation, chemicals, waterway transport means, defence equipment and relic conservation.
Vietnam and Poland formed the diplomatic ties in 1950 and since then have exchanged much high-ranking delegations to strengthen the friendship between the two governments and the cooperation in all fields.
So far, the two sides signed a series of important agreements on culture and science cooperation (1992), justice support (1993), investment encouragement and protection (1994), organized crime prevention (2003), entry and exist of Vietnamese and Polish citizens (2004), cooperation on agriculture and urban development (2005) and education and training cooperation in the 2005-2008 period.
The republic country is considered Vietnam’s customer in the East European region, mainly importing garments, aquatic products and foods.
In 2006, the two-way trade hit US$330 million and is forecast to reach US$350 million in this year.
Poland helped Vietnam to preserve historic relics, funded to build and upgrade construction works and hospitals. During a conference on international donors in Vietnam in 2006, Poland pledged to provide for Vietnam with US$0.3 million in ODA loans a year.
The foreign country has help to train 40,000 students and scientists, and 35,000 workers. The Vietnamese community in Poland is about 20,000-30,000 people. (Website of CPV)
