On November 29, the Vietnam Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Environment (IMHEN), under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE), and KOICA signed a cooperation agreement to build an environment training centre.

The environment training centre will provide comprehensive training on environment protection systems such as policies and techniques to protect the environment, for 15,000 state officials working in the environment sector in Vietnam.

Through KOICA, South Korea expects to invest US$1.5 million to provide equipment for this project from 2007 to 2010. This is financial support for research, training and technical consultancy for environment officials in Vietnam. The project was approved in the annual meeting between the Vietnam Minister of Environment and the South Korean counterpart, and after the feasibility survey carried out by KOICA in July.
