The National Coordinating Council on Disabilities under the Vietnam Association for the Support of Disabled People, the Information Technology Application Department and Vietnam Association for Information Processing (VAIP) have recently held an exchange eve called “Connecting persons with disabilities: ICT opportunities for all.” The organisers also launched the second “ICT - Light the Hope” Award.

Mr. Dam Huu Dac, Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (Molisa), said the programme “charity messaging - 10,000 computers for the disabled” was encouragingly successful thanks to the support of enterprises, organisations and individuals. At the exchange eve, several people in Hanoi and Bac Ninh were presented computers. Mr. Dac hoped more and more people would send the SMS to support the programme (send the message with key word NA to number 8717. He hoped to see more kind-hearted people and organisations like HP Vietnam and VNPT to join the programme.

A VAIP representative said this year’s “ICT - Light the Hope” Award will have prizes for people with active contributions to ICT application for the sake of the poor. Candidates can register with the programme or organisations introduce candidates.

The deadline for reception of competing products is March 5, 2009. The awarding ceremony is set to take place on the Day of the Disabled (April 18, 2009) in Hanoi.
