Blue Book on EU-Vietnam Cooperation Debuts June 26

The French Embassy in Vietnam June 26 made debut the &ldquoBlue Book 2008&rdquo, or an annual report on the EU's development cooperation with Vietnam, in Hanoi.
 
The book&rsquos 10th edition covers figures on the achievements of 2007 and donation commitments for 2008, and map out the EU&rsquos main policy orientations, primarily poverty elimination.
 
Addressing the launching ceremony, Ambassador-Head of the Delegation of the European Commission to Vietnam, Sean Doyle, said the book highlighted the EU&rsquos efforts to increase aid effectiveness in Vietnam.
 
He congratulated Vietnam for being ed to be presented at the High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness in Accra, Ghana in September, 2008.
 
This year&rsquos Blue Book affirmed EU policies and activities are related to the environment and climate change in Vietnam.
 
The book says Vietnam is forecast to suffer from bad impacts from the climate change with poor and vulnerable people in rural areas.
 
This year, the EU committed to finance EUR665.2 million (nearly US$1 billion), equal to 17.7 per cent of total foreign aid to Vietnam, Sean Doyle said.
 
Of the sum, EUR404 million (nearly US$600 million) or almost two thirds are non-refundable aid, down 15 per cent on year. (Liberated Saigon, VNA, Youth)
