Vietnam reportedly produced 7.21 million tons of crude oil in the first six months this year, down 7.9 per cent on year, said the General Statistics Office (GSO).

In June, the country&rsquos crude oil production hit 1.2 million tons, down 2.9 per cent on year, the office said.

The fall in crude oil volume is mainly due to lower production at Bach Ho, the countrys biggest oilfield, a source from the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade said.

In Jan-Jun, Vietnam produced 3.62 billion cubic meters of natural gas and 126,000 tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), down 4.7 per cent and 16.2 per cent on year, respectively, the GSO said.

GSO said that Vietnam is the third largest crude oil producer in Asia, exporting 56.72 million tons of crude oil valued at US$5.6 billion in the first six months this year, up 49 per cent on year in value despite a fall of 12.1 per cent in volume. (GSO June 2008)
