The Vietnamese Ministry of Transport has recently opened a floating port to export crude oil from Su Tu Vang (Yellow Lion) oilfield located at Block 15-1 in the Cuu Long basin.

The port, offshore central Binh Thuan province, is capable of receiving domestic and foreign vessels with tonnage of up to 150,000 DWT.

The safe distance between the port and other infrastructure works is around two nautical miles.

Vung Tau port authorities are tasked to ensure maritime safety and security as well as prevent environmental pollution at the port.

Discovered in 2001, Vietnam's fourth-largest Su Tu Vang oilfield is estimated to have a reserve of between 35 million and 40 million tons.

Cuu Long Joint Operating Company (JOC), a joint venture between U.S.-based ConocoPhillips and Vietnam’s state-run oil monopoly PetroVietnam group, October 25 pumped the first 65,000 barrels per day at the oilfield, two weeks sooner than scheduled.

JOC is expected to double its crude oil production output to 100,000 barrels per day once its five remaining oil wells at the oilfield fully operational this year. (Local sources)
