Vietnam to Spend US$151.51 Mln Providing Power for Eight Island Districts

Vietnam plans to spend VND2.5 trillion (US$151.51 million) to develop wind, solar and diesel generation stations in eight local island districts from now until 2010 with vision to 2015, the Saigon Liberation newspaper said, quoting Ministry of Industry and Trade said.
 
Beneficiaries include districts of Co To in northern Quang Ninh province, Bach Long vi in northern Haiphong City, Con Co in central Quang Tri province, Ly Son in central Quang Ngai province, Phu Quy in central Binh Thuan province, Con Dao in southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, and Phu Quoc and Kien Hai in southern Kien Giang province.
 
Between 2011 and 2015, the ministry will build a 110-kV undersea cable system with 53 kilometers long and a 110-kV aerial power lines with 12 kilometers long in Phu Quoc Island.
 
The 56,500-hectare island with a population of 79,800 is currently relying on power supply by four diesel-fuelled turbines with a combined capacity of only 12 MW by state-owned Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN). (Saigon Liberation)
