Vietnam always attaches a special importance to enhancing the comprehensive relationship with Russia, particularly in fields of economy, trade, science and technology, education and culture, President Nguyen Minh Triet told Russian guests Feb 3 in Hanoi.

During his reception given to scientists and businesspeople from Moscow and St. Petersburg cities, who are visiting Vietnam to study the country’s policies on laws, investment opportunities and environment, President Triet expressed Vietnam welcomes investment from the European country and also expects Russia to play an increasingly important role in Southeast Asia.

“The Vietnamese people rejoice at Russia’ powerful development in the recent past, thus contributing to peace and stability in the region and the world as a whole,” the Young People newspaper cited the state leader as saying.

The Russian delegation, led by Prof. Vladimir Mikhalovich from the University of St. Petersburg, informed President Triet of their researches on politics, economy, finance, operation of Russian firms as well as joint ventures with Vietnamese partners.

Prof. Mikhalovich affirmed his school is willing to welcome Vietnamese students and interested in expanding cooperation in education and training with Vietnam.

Russian businesspeople also pledged to try their utmost to contribute raising two-way trade to US$3 billion in 2010 and US$10 billion in 2015 as agreed by the leaders of the two countries during President Triet’s visit to Russian in October last year.

They also hoped the economic cooperation will play a role as driving force to push up the two nations’ long-term relations. (News, The People)
