The Dung Quat Shipbuilding Industry Corporation under the Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group (Vinashin) Feb 26 began to build a 105,000-ton oil tanker in central Quang Ngai province, the largest of its kind so far in Vietnam.

The tanker with a total investment of US$60 million will be installed with modern equipment to meet the requirements of International Marine Conventions.

The oil vessel is designed with 243.8 meters in length, 42 meters in width, 21.4 meters in height, an engine capacity of 13,560kw and an average velocity of 14.5 nautical miles per hour.

It is expected that this oil tanker will be delivered to the investor of PetroVietnam Transportation Corporation (PVTrans), an affiliate of the state-owned oil monopoly PetroVietnam group, in July 2010, said Dinh Tien Dung, deputy director of the corporation.

He added that to build the 105,000-ton oil tanker, the group had sent its key engineers for overseas training in Poland and the Republic of Korea.

Later, the shipyard will build two new 105,000-ton oil tankers under the contract signed with PetroVietnam and Vinashin.

The factory is now putting the finishing touches to a 104,000 ton oil tanker so that it will be launched in June 2009 to carry crude to the Dung Quat Oil Refinery, Dung said. (Labor, Youth, VOV)
