Vietnam Market Watchdog Signs up 62 Foreign Stock Investors in Feb
Vietnam’s Securities Depository Center, the market watchdog, had granted trading accounts for an additional 62 foreign investors in the second month this year, the state-run newspaper said.
They include 14 institutions and 48 retailers, the stock news provider of Dau Tu Chung Khoan Online said.
In January, the local market watchdog activated only 56 foreign investors including 16 institutions and 40 retailers, it said.
So far, the center has granted trading accounts to 12,838 foreign investors, including 917 institutional investors and 11,921 retailers.
Foreigners were net sellers of VND142.4 billion of local shares in February while they were net buyers of VND86.5 billion in January.
By end-2008, foreigners had seen their investment portfolios nearly halving to US$4.6 billion due to slumping market which lost 66 per cent last year and continued to slide more than 20 per cent so far this year, the State Securities Commission said. (www.tinnhanhchungkhoan.com.vn)
