Vietnam Airlines Makes US$1.59B Revenues, US$13.6M Profit Last Year
The national flag carrier, Vietnam Airlines has said that it made VND27 trillion (US$1.59 billion) in revenues and VND230 billion (US$13.6 million) profit in 2008, state media said, quoting Pham Ngoc Minh, general director of the airlines.
Minh did not give out comparative figures, but noted that Vietnam Airlines plans to transport 9.4 million passengers and contribute VND345 billion to the state budget this year.
During a meeting with officials of Vietnam Airlines on Wednesday, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said the government will continue increasing investment to upgrade the national carrier to meet its goals next decade.
Mr Dung also allowed the national flag carrier to buy new aircrafts, build infrastructure and join Sky Team alliance.
In the context of the global economic recession, the airline should draw up specific plans to maintain its routes, flights and personnel, save fuel, improve services and pay attention to personnel training, Mr Dung added. (Youth, Labor, VoV)
