Saigon Port in southern Vietnam, the country’s biggest port, dismantled nearly 4.9 million tons of cargo in the first quarter of this year, representing an on-year rise of 41.6 per cent.

In March, the port unloaded 1.8 million tons of cargos, the record high so far.

Exports account for the majority of the total cargos during the period, particularly sand holding up to 48 per cent. The sand is transited via Vietnam from Cambodia to Singapore.

The port has set a goal to handle 12.3 million tons of cargo, gaining revenues of VND980 billion (US$57.6 million) and profits of VND40 billion this year. (The People)
