VRC to Invest VND11.6T to Upgrade 5 Rail Routes This Year
The state-run Vietnam Railway Corp (VRC) has said it will spend approx VND11.6 trillion (US$686.4 million) to improve five key railway routes this year.
Of that sum, the VRC will spend VND2.552 trillion to upgrade the Hanoi-Lao Cai railway, VND1 trillion for information and signal systems of Hanoi-Vinh railway, VND4 trillion for Vinh-Nha Trang railway section and the remainder for improving 44 bridges on the north-south railway.
Under a development strategy for the railway sector toward 2020, approved by the prime minister, Vietnam will accelerate development of railway to meet at least 13 per cent of passenger transport demand and 14 per cent of cargo transport. (VNA)
