Vietnam Remains Top Choice for Korean Investors
South Korean investors still consider Vietnam as the top choice in the Southeast Asian region for their medium and long-term investments, according to the South Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s latest report.
The report studying the business prospects of 250 South Korean companies in Vietnam indicated that 50.3 per cent of South Korea’s businesses select Vietnam for their investments.
Meanwhile, just 16.8 per cent choose Cambodia and the rate for the remaining countries in the region is 10 per cent.
The report said that up to 48.2 per cent of the interviewed companies plan to expand their business activities and 45.2 per cent affirm to maintain their operations in Vietnam this year.
As of late 2008, South Korea injected US$15.8 billion into Vietnam, becoming the fourth largest foreign investor making direct investment in the country.
Currently, some 1,600 South Korean firms are operating in Vietnam, accounting for 21 per cent of the countries of foreign direct investment value.
South Korea is now Vietnam’s sixth biggest trade partner. The two-way trade is presently estimated at US$9.8 billion. (Saigon Liberation, VoV)
