Hanoi Telecom and Hong Kong-based global giant Hutchison Telecommunications International Ltd., known as HT Mobile, launched Vietnamobile, the sixth mobile phone network in Vietnam April 8 after completing network installations and successful trial runs.
Vietnamobile is also the fourth Global System for Mobile communications (GSM) network marked by the three digits 092 in Vietnam, after MobiFone, Vinaphone and Viettel.
After the debut, Vietnamobile became the first network in the country to calculate calling charge under the one second block method, with VND27 per second, while other firms applied 6 seconds + 1 second block billing.
Using network infrastructure from Sweden’s Ericsson and China’s Huawei, Vietnamobile services are covering all 64 provinces and cities nationwide starting today.
Pham Ngoc Lang, chairman of Hanoi Telecom, said at a press conference Wednesday that Vietnamobile is determined to make a difference in the market, ensuring customer satisfaction through the three operational values of affordability, quality and accessibility.
Vietnamobile expects 10,000 retail outlets to open up across the country within a month.
HT Mobile, capitalized at US$500 million, was licensed last March to invest in shifting from existing Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) technology to GSM one.
Currently, the only two mobile networks, S-Fone and EVN Telecom, are applying CDMA technology in Vietnam.
Vietnam now has more than 70 million mobile subscribers. The industry, after enjoying 30 per cent annual growth in recent years, expects annual revenues of US$7 billion in 2010. (Local sources)
