Ho Chi Minh-based Thu Duc Water Plant (TDW) started operation Thursday April 9 its VND1.547 trillion (US$91 million) water plant in the first stage with a daily capacity of 100,000 cubic meters.

TDW will supply water for District 2’s main pipes and residents will have to wait for the Saigon Water Supply Corp (Sawaco) to connect these pipes to their homes before accessing the new source of tap water, said TDW Deputy Director, Truong Khac Hoanh.

Meanwhile, Sawaco said that these pipes will be completed by the end of this month.

Construction is underway on the rest of the project that aims to supply 300,000 cubic meters a day to residents in districts 2,7,9, Thu Duc and Nha Be, Hoanh added.

Work on the plant began in September 2005 and is scheduled for completion in August 2007 before several delays. (Young People)
