Communist Vietnam will build a space technology research center with a total investment of US$350 million sourced from Japan’s ODA next year, the first of its kind.

The center will be built on an area of nine hectares in Hi-Tech Park of Hoa Lac, 30 kilometers from the center of Hanoi and completed in 2017.

The center will consist of 14 functional areas, including a satellite manufacturing plant, an integrating and testing center, a magnetic field testing area, a satellite control center and an observatory model.

Once operational, it will be a leading space technology research center in Southeast Asia and will help effectively implement the country’s space technology research and application strategy by 2020, PhD Pham Anh Tuan, vice head of the Space Technology Institute said.

The Vietnam Institute of Science and Technology April 8 submitted the project to Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan.

Japan has recently pledged to increase 10 per cent of its ODA for Vietnam each year, Minister of Planning and Investment Vo Hong Phuc said. (chinhphu.vn, News)
