Vietnam HCM City Aims for Export Growth of 16.5 per cent in 2009
Ho Chi Minh City authorities and import-export associations gathered at a meeting Monday to discuss measures to fulfill its export growth target of 16.5 per cent to US$16.3 billion this year, excluding crude oil export value.
The municipal Industry and Trade Service outlined two scenarios without crude oil export: exports to grow 12 per cent to US$15.68 billion if the global financial crisis lasts until the end of Q3 this year; and 16.5 per cent growth of US$16.3 billion if the crisis ends in late Q2.
Under the second scenario, industrial and handicraft products are forecast to earn US$9.2 billion from exports, up 20 per cent on-year, agro-forestry-fisheries products of US$3.5 billion, up 5.8 per cent, and other goods of US$3.5 billion, up 21 per cent.
Early this year, Ho Chi Minh City has targeted to reap US$26 billion from goods exports in 2009, up 16.5 per cent on-year, said the service. (Liberation Saigon)
